Stand with Nepali Migrant Worker Families Affected by the Floods
On 26 August 2026, catastrophic flash floods struck Nepal, sweeping through communities along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems. In the days since, more than 1,200 people have been reported dead, thousands remain missing, and families have lost homes, livelihoods and essential belongings.
Among those affected are families and communities of Nepali migrant workers whom Equidem has worked alongside over many years.
Many Nepali migrant workers leave their families for months or years at a time to earn a living in the Gulf, Malaysia, India and elsewhere. They often work in low-paid and insecure jobs, far from home and with limited financial security. Migration itself can place enormous strain on workers and their families.
Now, for many of them, that strain has become even greater.
Workers thousands of kilometres away are trying to support families who have lost homes, possessions and sources of income overnight. Others have returned to communities facing enormous uncertainty about how they will recover. For households already living with economic insecurity, the floods have created another profound source of financial and emotional stress.
Equidem is raising funds to provide direct financial assistance and essential support to migrant worker families affected by the floods.
Your contribution can help families meet immediate needs, replace essential belongings and begin rebuilding their lives and livelihoods.
At this moment of immense loss and uncertainty, please stand with Nepali migrant workers and their families.
