Report Summary,

This public statement by Equidem calls on the newly formed Government of Nepal to place migrant workers’ rights at the centre of its governance agenda.

Drawing on research and direct engagement with Nepali migrant workers, the statement highlights systemic failures in Nepal’s migration governance—from deceptive recruitment and debt bondage to unsafe working conditions and barriers to justice — and sets out concrete, rights-based recommendations for reform.

At this moment of political transition in Nepal, there is a critical opportunity to build a migration system grounded in dignity, accountability, and justice. We hope this statement can serve as a guide in that process, and Equidem remains committed to supporting the Government of Nepal in advancing meaningful reform for migrant workers.
